I am invited to speak at the IMA (Institute for Mathematics and its Applications) Networks Workshop in Minneapolis; afterwards I visit with Lynda from Bioinformatics at the University of Minnesota.

Early in the morning I head to my plane |
We fly over the ocean |
I change planes in Newark |
And fly to Minneapolis |
There, I take the Super Shuttle to the hotel |
My hotel room |
Which has sleep number beds! |
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science where the workshop is |
The origanizers introduce the workshop |
We have coffee breaks |
And talks (this is Peter Swain) |
And here I am giving my talk |
Second chances after the talks gives the audience time to ask more questions |
We also have a poster session |
While I am in Minneapolis it snows! |
I also get a key to an office |
It is in the IMA building |
On the forth floor |
Which I use a card key to enter |
There is a sign for my office |
And here is my desk! |
The Gopher Way connects buildings in the cold |
From my office to the Workshop first I head to Mechanical Engineering |
Via a skyway which has more IMA offices |
Then I go to the Workshop building |
Via another skyway |
After the workshop I give a talk to the Bioinformatics Center |
After my talk Lynda takes me to the Raptor Center |
Where we see a Bald Eagle |
And a Peregrine |
And a Great Horned Owl amongst others |
Then we go to Lynda's house and take her dogs for a walk |
Lynda and her dog Sam |
Minneapolis on the way back to town |
We go for a nice meal with some other Bioinformatics people |
The next day we go eagle watching |
There are eagles everywhere! |
Here is an eagle catching a fish |
We go to another place and see ducks |
And swans |
The Eagle Center is having a special event |
I got photographed with an eagle |
We go to an eagle feeding |
We drive back up on the Wisconsin side and see dots on the river |
They turn out to be cars and trucks! |
We go to the Mall of America |
To eat at the Nappa Valley Grille |
And then visit the Apple Store, where I am tempted, but don't buy an iPod Touch |
Then it's time to head home |
I didn't know Daylight Savings Time had started so I miss my shuttle and take a taxi to the airport |
But my plane (CO 2373) is delayed three hours, so it doesn't matter |
In the airport is an iPod vending machine, where I also don't buy an iPod Touch |
Finally, I get to the plane and they need to de-ice it |
Flying into Newark gives a good view of New York City |
In Newark I also don't buy an iPod Touch |
Here we are on the plane ready to fly across the ocean |
Each seat has its own screen |
Where you can choose your own movie |
Back in Scotland I am welcomed |
And go home |
